-

MANILA, Philippines - Windy Imperial shot a gross 79 while Lito Marana fired a net 69 as they copped the top honors in the sixth Highlands Ladies Cup at the Midlands Golf and Country Club in Tagaytay over the weekend.

Imperial gunned down two birdies and came through with nine pars to turn in that 79 and capture the low gross crown while Marana, a 15-handicapper, carded a gross 84 to bag the low net title in the 18-hole annual tournament organized by Tagaytay Highlands Ladies Chapter.

Imperial also ran away with the longest drive award while Malou Valero took the driving honors in the ladies side. Other fun hole winners were Randy Cinco (nearest to the pin) and Jimmy Bautista (most accurate drive).

Baby Lagura, meanwhile, scored a repeat in the event, backed by Diamond sponsors CATS Motors and Baron Travel and Platinum sponsors Philippine Airlines, San Miguel Corp., Pacific Online, Security Bank and W Towers, as she ruled the ladies category with a net 72.

Lagura, who took the Class B crown last year, made a gross 99 and nipped Jeannie McDermott by one. McDermott shot a 73 and edged Arlette Dizon in the countback for runner-up honors in the event backed by Pilipinas Shell as gold sponsor and Bingo Bonanza Corp. and SM Retail, Inc. as silver sponsors.

Melchor Dizon fired a net 70 from a gross 79 to nip Ruel de Castro, who also shot a net 70 from a gross 86, in the countback for Class A plum while Peter Kawsek captured the Class B plum with a net 71 from a gross 95, beating Apolinario Reyes, who had a gross 93 for a net 72.

Rolando Dizon topped Class C with a net 73 from a gross 101, edging Albert Saringo, who also made a 73 from a gross 102, in the countback.

Sharing the spotlight were raffle draw winners Ruel de Castro, who won a four-night Royal Caribbean Asia Cruise via Legend of the Seas for two paired with Air Philippine Express to Singapore, Fred Yuson, who bagged the Philippine Airlines business class round trip for two to India, and Edgar See, who won a 3-night/2-day stay for two at Balai Villa at the Eskaya Resort and Spa in Panglao, Bohol via Air Philippine Express.-- end it//thanks
