Top netters compete in Hagedorn Open
MANILA, Philippines - The country’s finest tennis players and rising stars will be battling it out for big prizes when the Mayor Edward Hagedorn Open unfurls its inaugural season on Oct. 22 at the Puerto Princesa City tennis courts in Palawan.
A total prize pot of P200,000 is up for grabs with the men’s singles champion getting P50,000 and the runner-up P25,000 consolation purse in the tournament sanctioned by the Philippine Lawn Tennis Association (Philta) and supported by Palawan Pawnshop Express Padala and Prince.
“I have always believed that tennis is one sport where Filipino can excel and achieve international honor and distinction for the country. It is one sport discipline where height and other physical endowment are not as important as talent, agility and athleticism,” said Hagedorn.
The chase for the men’s crown is also expected to be fierce as Davis Cup veteran and many-time Philippine Columbian Association Open champion Johnny Arcilla has confirmed participation along with veteran campaigners Elbert Anasta, Patrick John Tierro and Ronaldo Ruel Jr.
