MANILA, Philippines - After the previous week’s cancellation of the final round due to bad weather, La Salle Zobel and Ateneo 2 returned to complete their title romps in the two midgets divisions of the ICTSI Inter-school golf tournament’s first leg recently at the Ayala Greenfield Estates Golf and Leisure Club in Calamba, Laguna.
The La Salle Zobel boys coasted pressure-free to victory as Jaime Oposa chalked up 41 points, Karl Tolentino added 34 and Steven Ferrer had 27 for 102 points and a 54-hole aggregate of 339, carrying teammates Riane Casquejo and Derrico Dimaunahan to a 33-point win.
Xavier 4 (Kendrick Diaz, Matthew Dybuncio, Matthew Gue, Lorenzo Fores and Vince Ngo) tallied 101 for 306 and runner-up honors, La Salle Greenhills 5 (EZ Serapio, Ryan Monsalve, Joni Pancho and Spade Barbers) at the conclusion of the three-weekend series which played its first two legs at Splendido and Capitol Hills.
Ateneo pulled off a 1-2-3 finish in Midgets 2 of the event backed chiefly by the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. It is also sponsored by Philippine Airlines, Chevrolet Pancake House Group, Teriyaki Boy and Sizzilin Pepper.
The Ateneo 2 trio of Aidric Jose Chan, Carl Corpus and Marc Corrales finished with a 298 after a 101 for the day. Ateneo 3’s Raphael Samson, Raymond Quinto, Jefferson Conding, Gabriel Magalong and Riggs Illescas posted 60 for 122.
Ateneo 4’s Vito Manalili, Francis Pepping, Mathew Mateo and Jose Castaneda claimed third place with 44 and 100.
The Midgets 1, Midgets 2 and Seniors entries will play today the first round of the second leg of the series organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines at the Aguinaldo Golf Clubs.
