MANILA, Philippines - The Samsung Amateur Open offers a pack of prizes for hole-in-one feats, including a Samsung LCD TV, a set of irons from Mizuno and a roundtrip ticket to Singapore courtesy of Airphil Express when the event is held Oct. 21-22 at the Summit Point Golf and Country Club in Lipa, Batangas.
The country’s leading amateurs and rising stars plus the top jungolfers will fight it out for top honors in various divisions in the annual event presented by Samsung with the battle for the championship in the centerpiece Open division (0-3.9 handicap) tipped to be fierce among members of the national pool.
Although all the winners will get special gifts aside from trophies, the prizes for aces are just too attractive for the competing field lined up for a different kind of challenge at the par-72 layout, which features the famous and revered golf holes in the world.
They include the Augusta National’s noted Amen Corner (Nos. 10, 11 and 12), the No. 10 of Pebble Beach, No. 16 of Oakland Hills and St. Andrews’ No. 14, Royal Dormoch’s No. 8, Harbour Town’s No. 18, Winged Foot’s No. 10, Seminole’s No. 7, Carnoustie’s No. 16 and Spyglass No. 16.
The Samsung 22” LCD TV will be up for grabs on No. 2, the Mizuno T Zoid full set of irons will be staked on No. 6 while No. 13 will offer a round trip ticket for two to Singapore.
Other prizes will be given for hole-in-one feats on other par-3s.
ICTSI golf team members are expected to dispute the titles in the Open class, including Dottie Ardina and Chihiro Ikeda in the ladies division, and Reymon Jaraula, Alex Nallos and Zanie Boy Gialon in the men’s side of the tournament sponsored by Airphil Express, Mizuno, Custom Clubmakers, Footjoy and Titleist by Empire Golf, Loro, Endress+Hauser, Sweet Photolicious, Torch Resto Bar, GlucosCare, Omnisource International, Business Mirror and Inquirer Golf.
The other categories are on tap in the stroke-play event, put up by Samsung Phils. in its effort to develop the sport and discover talents who could be tapped and trained to become members of the national team, are Classes A (4-8.9), B (9-14.9), C (15-21.9) and D (22-and-above) for men and Classes A (0-8.9), B (9-19.9) and C (20-and-above) for ladies.
The event also serves as part of the national women’s team’s buildup for next month’s SEA Games in Indonesia, with Ardina and Ikeda leading the country’s title retention bid in team play and Ikeda in the individual competition. The other members of the team also competing in the Samsung Am are Andie Unson and alternate Jayvie Agojo.
