Phl amateur golf series up at Sherwood

MANILA, Philippines - The Pilipinas Amateur Golf Series, the country’s first and only nationwide series of golf tournaments that provides amateur men and women of all ages, with any handicap, the opportunity to compete on a level field, opens Oct. 28 at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Trece Martires, Cavite.

 The PAG Series will have nine qualifying rounds, one every month wherein the top four qualifiers in each division will join the national final (venue to be announced) and to determine the 2012 national champions, said tournament director Rodel Mangulabnan.

After Sherwood, action shifts to Splendido Golf and Country Club in Tagaytay, Royal Northwoods in Bulacan, Mt. Malarayat in Lipa City, Orchard Golf in Cavite, Forest Hills in Antipolo City, Cebu Country Club in Cebu City, and Ayala Greenfields in Calamba.

The last stop of the series will either be at the Pueblo de Oro in Cagayan de Oro or Apo Golf Club in Davao.

Mangulabnan met with sponsor Mizuno (Paolo Cagalingan) and general managers and golf directors, namely, Henry Arabelo (Malarayat), Teboy Javier (Splendido), Andy Maglipon (Forest Hills), Juami Rocha (Greenfiel ds), Raymund Sangil (Orchard) and Raymond Bunquin (Sherwood Hills), and finalized the details.

“Not only will the participants take part in an organized series of tournaments, they will also have the opportunity to travel and try out the beautiful courses around the country. In effect, this will serve as our contribution to promote golf tourism,” Mangulabnan said.

Entry fee is P2,000 to P2,500 for local players or P3,500 to P4,000 for foreign players. It may vary from one event to the next, host club members are fixed at P1,000. Interested players may register via SMS by sending “Golf” to 0917-8784478 or via online through www.pilipinasgolf.com.
