Alido, Magcalayo post easy ICTSI wins

MANILA, Philippines - Ira Alido of Elizabeth Seton School and Jona Angela Magcalayo of La Salle Canlubang coasted to easy victories in the Midgets 2 and Girls 2 individual divisions, respectively, of the ICTSI Inter-school golf tournament over the weekend at the Riviera executive course in Silang, Cavite.

Alido capped his campaign with his best output in four rounds of 51 points for a total of 184 and a 13-point win over Jolo Magcalayo. Alido had earlier posted 50 points at Royale Tagaytay then chalked up 40 and 43 at Riviera.

Jolo Magcalayo, also playing out of La Salle Canlubang, tallied 49 after earlier rounds of 37, 40 and 45 for 171. Miguel Olivarez-Ilas of La Salle Zobel placed third at 144.

Jona Magcalayo, meanwhile, streaked to a 29-point win over Sunshine Burberry Zhang of OB Montessori in her division in the tourney also supported by Philippine Airlines, Chevrolet, Pancake House Group, Teriyaki Boy and Sizzilin Pepper.

Jona had rounds of 31, 29, 35, 32 for 127, 29 ahead of Zhang (15-28-32-23). Kyla Pepping of Miriam College.

Team events in Midgets 1 and 2 and the juniors division scheduled at Ayala Greenfield Estates were postponed for this weekend due to typhoon Pedring. It will be held simultaneously with Girls 1 & 2 and Seniors (College) play at AFP Golf Club. 

The second leg of the school season series starts Oct. 5 at Riviera Sports.
