Binay badminton attracts huge field

MANILA, Philippines - The VP Binay Grand Prix Badminton Open Championships-PBaRS fourth leg braces for a week-long of top notch action and surprises with a banner field expected to vie for top honors in various divisions when it is staged Oct. 23-29 at PowerSmash in Makati.

The organizing Philippine Badminton Ranking System said registration is ongoing, adding that the event is open to anyone, including beginners who may want to get the feel of big-time competitions featuring the country’s leading players.

Deadline for listup is on Friday (Oct. 7) at 5 p.m. at the PBaRS office (20. E. Maclang St. San Juan). For details, visit http://www.pbars.com. The elims will be played at PowerSmash while the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will be held either at the Philsports Arena or Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

“First timers are welcome to join the event,” said PBaRS tournament director Nelson Asuncion in response to inquiries on the composition of the field. “We are expecting a huge field based on the feedbacks and queries made over the last few days.”

The event, co-presented by MVP Sports Foundation and Robinsons Land Corp., caps a four-leg nationwide circuit put up by Vice President and Philippine Badminton Association president Jejomar Binay, Rep. Albee Benitez and businessman-sportsman Manny Pangilinan in their commitment to help develop the sport and discover talents in the countryside.
