Guanco tops architects golf

MANILA, Philippines - Cordell Guanco fired a net 68 to edge Edgar Lee and Cesar Lim by one and capture the Group I crown while Ricardo Gutierrez pocketed the Group II plum in the Architects Golf Club monthly tournament at the Eastridge Golf and Country Club in Binangonan, Rizal last week.

Guanco, a 17-handicapper, had a gross 85 to rule the premier side of the event while Lee shot a net 69, including a par on the 18th, then nipped Lim, who holed out with a bogey for a net 69, in the countback to bag the runner-up honors.

Gutierrez had a gross 86 for a net 64 as he nipped Romeo David, who had a net 65, by one while Paul Peña finished third with a net 66 in the tournament sponsored by Boysen Paints and backed by Emerald, JME Supreme International, Koten, Apo Floors - Apo Galfan, Bostik Philippines, Bryan Isaiah Trading & Construction, Inc., Coach Concepts & Designs, Crown Pipes, Decopro, Inc. and Excellence Appliance (Whirlpool-Fujidenzo-Glem).

Wilson Sioco topped Group III with a gross 96 for a net 71, nipping Danny Tabifranca, who also had a 71, in the countback with a bogey on No. 18. Aris Dimaandal placed third with a net 73.

Daniel Sabularse dominated Group IV with a net 66 from a gross 98, posting a nine-shot romp over Graciela da Jose, who had a net 75 while Leonardo Antonio made a net 79 for third.

Nestor Reyes copped the seniors crown with a net 73 from a gross 94, beating Romulo de Jesus Jr., who also had a net 73, in the countback with a par on the 18th. Donatila Leveriza also made a 73 but settled for third with a double-bogey on the final hole.
