MANILA, Philippines - Pigeon racing aficionados will have the opportunity to vie for the Mayor Herbert Bautista Cup next month at the Quezon City Racing Pigeon Club’s (QRPC) first race for 2011.
The event will have two categories, young birds and open. Pigeons will race from Ilagan (Isabela), Vigan (Ilocos Sur), Tuguegarao (Cagayan), Laoag (Ilocos Norte) and Aparri (Cagayan) to Quezon City starting on Oct. 14 registration day.
Awarding rites are set Nov. 15 at the Quezon City Circle.
QRPC president Fernand Oneza said this is the first time the sport has received the support of a local government official.
QRPC has over 700 members coming from Quezon City (80 percent), Antipolo, Montalban, Marikina, Bulacan. The October race, however, is open to all pigeon fanciers within a radius of 35 kms. from Quezon Memorial Circle.
The race for the Mayor Herbert M. Bautista Cup will be launched in appropriate rites which will involve the releasing of 200 pigeons in Quezon City presided over by its chief executive on October 10, 2011.
