Quisay, Lee score easy wins in Bacolod run
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – A last minute decision to cut short his vacation in the province paid off for Alley Quisay as he topped the Bacolod elimination leg of the 35th National Milo Marathon here.
Quisay, 30, of Pangasinan, poured out all his energy in the crucial stretch to cross the finish line all alone with a time of 1:13:11 to topple strong Negrense competitors in the premier 21-km race.
“At the start, I purposely paced behind the other runners to size up the competition and reserve my strength.
“Then after the turning point, I could sense my competitors were already tired so I put all my strength into speeding up and from there I led till the end,” said Quisay, a fourth placer in the National Milo Marathon finals last year.
Local bet Anthony Babiera could only manage 1:14:14 to settle for second while Roger Denolo finished third in 1:14:52.
Army, which finished third in the 2011 Singapore Army Half Marathon and which Quisay is a part of, is poised to dominate the Milo Marathon.
Quisay joins his comrades San Pablo regional leg winner Alquin Bolivar and Tarlac regional leg winner Jujet de Asis while other teammates – Cresenciano, Elmer and Gerald Sabal and Frank Indapan – are set to join the other regional race legs.
On the distaff side, Joeyry Lee of Cebu posted 1:40:56 to capture her second regional eliminations leg championship despite suffering cramps.
