DLS-Z, Ateneo assured of jungolf crowns

-

MANILA, Philippines - La Salle Zobel 1 and Ateneo 2 gave their rivals no chance to come any closer with solid efforts that virtually assured them of the titles in their respective divisions after the penultimate round of the ICTSI Inter-school golf tournament at the Capitol Hills Golf and Country Club in Diliman, Quezon City.

Jaime Oposa and Karl Tolentino scattered 44 points each and Steven Ferrer added 39 as La Salle Zobel posted 127 for the day for a 237 total, 32 points clear of Xavier 4 in the Midgets 1 division heading to the final round next weekend.

Riane Casquejo and Derrico Dimaunahan did not count with their 25 and 17 points, respectively, but their teammates made sure to get the job done early.

Xavier 4 scored 112 for 205 through Matthew Gue’s 40 and the 36s of Matthew Dybuncio and Kendrick Diaz.

Aidric Chan exploded for a day-best 55 points and was instrumental in Ateneo 2’s overpowering show in the Midgets 2 group of the tourney given major backing by ICTSI. The other sponsors are Pancake House Group, Teriyaki Boy, Sizzlin Pepper, Chevrolet and Philippine Airlines.

Ateneo finished with 107 for the day on either of the 52s of Carl Jano Corpus and Marc Corrales to post a 36-hole total of 197.

Ateneo 3 fell 92 points behind at 102 and Ateneo 3 was at 82.

The individual race, however, remains close in Midgets 2 with Chan ahead of Corpus by just three, 100-97. Kristoffer Arevalo of Colegio de San Agustin had a 12-point lead over Chrisopher Popp of Brent and La Salle Zobel’s Jaime Oposa.

Ayala Greenfield hosts the final round this weekend (junior, girls 1 and girls 2 divisions) and next.
