UE holds anniversary walkathon

-

MANILA, Philippines - The University of the East sportsfest 2011 is underway with six teams vying for the championship title in basketball–men and beach volleyball, while thousand participants are participating in the Walkathon today, from Fort Santiago to Rizal Monument, as part of the nearly month-long festivities for the 65th UE foundation anniversary celebration this year with the theme “José Rizal: Nasa Puso Ng UE”.

The UE 65th anniversary officially begins. UE officials, alumni, students, faculty members, employees and special guests will motorcade from UE Manila to Fort Santiago, and then walk as participants in the walkathon from Fort Santiago to the Rizal Monument.

A wreath-laying ceremony follows the walkathon in honor of Dr. José Rizal.

“We dedicate to Dr. Jose Rizal UE’s 65th anniversary as UE and Dr. Rizal profess similar ideals,” according to UE’ marketing executive director Jesus Tanchanco Sr., who is the overall chairperson of this year’s celebrations. Office of Cultural Affairs director Generoso Caringal is the co-chair.

Pacesetters of the current basketball tourney are UEFA Selection and UE Students Council with 4-0 win-loss apiece. The defending champion UE Caloocan Selection along with UE Management, UEEA Selection and UE International Students Organization are struggling to catch up.

Many bowling enthusiasts among UE faculty members, rank-and-file, and management employees will compete in the sport tomorrow onwards, at bowling lanes at the Robinson Manila.
