Amit advances in World 9-Ball
MANILA, Philippines - Rubilen Amit romped away with a 7-1 rout of Sinem Kokten then bested Carlynn Sanchez, 7-2, in her next match in a big start in Group G in the Women’s World 9-Ball Championship in Shenyang, China yesterday.
Iris Ranola rebounded from a 1-7 loss to Pan Xiaoting with a 7-1 demolition of India’s Indira Gowdia then edged Lin Hsiao-Chi, 7-5, to remain in the race in the losers’ bracket.
Ranola next faces Lim Yun-Mi, who routed Ine Helvic, 7-3, and Marika Poikkijoki, 7-0, to stay in the hunt in Group H.
Amit hopes to sustain her form when she takes on Liu Sha Sha, who also posted a pair of convincing victories at the close of the group stages. Liu blanked Eylul Kybaroglu, 7-0, then whipped Chan Ya-Ting, 7-3.
Meanwhile, many-time world champion Allison Fisher dropped her first two matches, losing to Taiwanese Shin Mei Lui, 6-7, and Park Eun Ji of Korea, 3-7, in Group F and bowed out the tournament.
