RTU tossers sweep elims in WNCAA

MANILA, Philippines - Host Rizal Technological University dominated University of Asia and the Pacific, 25-13, 25-20, 25-22, to complete a seven-game sweep of the 42nd WNCAA senior volleyball elimination at its homecourt over the weekend.

RTU will carry the twice-to-beat edge against the same squad in the semifinals on Sunday.  UA&P wound up tied with Centro Escolar University at 3-4 but booked the last Final Four seat as it beat CEU, 25-21, 25-23, 25-21, on Sept. 11.

Miriam College, No. 2 spot at 6-1, will face San Beda College Alabang.

Angelicum College likewise won all its four Junior A assignments, capped with a 25-21, 17-25, 25-14, 25-10 victory over two-time defending champion St. Scholastica’s College on Saturday.  San Beda earlier swept the Junior B group.

Defending midget champion La Salle Zobel also emerged unbeaten after seven games while St. Scholastica follows at 6-1.  

In the basketball competition of the league being supported by Mikasa, Molten, Goody, MJC Press and AGR Xperts Corporation, Emilio Aguinaldo College secured second spot after downing San Beda, 66-56.

Last year’s junior champion Miriam swept Group A hostilities with a 60-46 win over La Salle College Antipolo, 60-49.  LSCA booked the No. 2 position.

RTU will defend its senior futsal title against 38th season winner Philippine Women’s University in this Sunday’s finals while DLSZ goes for a fourth straight junior crown versus Miriam.

AKTV (IBC 13 and Sky Cable channel 15) telecasts weekly highlights of the WNCAA matches while results are regularly aired over Monster Radio RX 93.1.
