Jaguars rip Vanguard for 2nd win

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Philip Cezar-coached Philippine School of Business Administration Jaguars leaned on three experienced mainstays to clobber the Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite Vanguard, 71-51, in the 10th Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (UCAA) men’s basketball tournament recently.

Veterans Roi Coronel, Vic Manuel and Roden Sagun provided the leadership for the Jaguars, who roared to their second consecutive win at the Olivarez College gymnasium in Sucat, Parañaque.

Coronel showed the way for the Jaguars with 15 points in the cagefest supported by Mikasa and Molten Balls.

He and Jun Fernando scored 12 points in a 14-6 run as the Jaguars set the tempo of the game with an 18-8 lead after the first 10 minutes.

Manuel made 14, while Sagun only had six. But Sagun ‘s rebounding and intimidating presence in the shaded lane enabled the Jaguars to stay ahead by 16, 37-21, at halftime.

“Hindi pa ako masyadong kuntento sa performance ng team. Kalahati ng team ay mga baguhan. At least, they showed something better than before. Good thing, the veterans were able to provide the leadership,” said Cezar.

The Vanguard absorbed their first loss after pulling off a 65-62 win over the La Salle-Dasmariñas Patriots in the opener.

The Jaguars are coming off a close 82-80 victory over the Manuel L. Quezon University Stallion in overtime during the opener last Friday, with Manuel scoring the winning basket for the team in the last 20 seconds.

In another opening-day game, Ryan Villa del Rey had 19 points for the Olivarez College Sea Lions, who routed the Central Colleges of the Philippines Bobcats, 81-57.
