Resorts World Manila backs KDJM derby

MANILA, Philippines - Resorts World Manila International Hotel and Casino has signed up as major sponsor of the prestigious Klub Don Juan de Manila (KDJM) Derby slated Oct. 2 at the San Lazaro Leisure and Business Park (SLLBP) in Carmona, Cavite.

Three highlight races topped by the coveted derby are on tap in the day-long racefest hosted by the KDJM, which is made up of some of the foremost horse owners and breeders of the land today.

KDJM past president and co-founder Lamberto “Jun” Almeda Jr. and director Johnny Lagasca said a total of P4.5 million is at stake in the centerpiece races – the Derby, Golden Girls Stakes supported by KDJM chairman emeritus Don Antonio Floirendo Sr. offering P500,000 to the winner.

Running here are Denise Song, Dancing Gisele, Wings Beneath, Rain Shower, Cit Cat Cooee, the speedsters Heaven Sent, Santeria, Botbo and My Hope.

Entered in the Resorts World 2,000-meter derby with P1.5 million going to the champion are High Voltage, Marker’s Mark, in-form Magna Carta, Naugh Naugh, Kittee’s Champ, Lord of War, Born Tycoon, Dona Nenita, Senyora Nenita, Eddie Gonzalez’s Boss Bee, Thirdy Thirdy, Cheese Mosa and Triple Crown leg victor Hari ng Yambo.

Disputing the Juvenile Colts race are Purple Ribbon, Remind Me, Steel Creation, Patron, Kidlat, Presently Perfect, Yonamizmo, Hamaheat, Isa Pa Isa Pa, Who Else and Almeda’s talented newcomer Golden Empire, the son of Minsk out of the great champion stayer Golden Ballet.

Participating in the Fillies race are Sea Princess, Lavish Love, Time To Shine Dad, Humble Riches, Spring Collection, Alpha Aleanza and Fair Win.

KDJM president Ferdie Dimasip said also to be run are the Instone Asia and Magic Millions of Australia Cups.
