MANILA, Philippines - PBA commissioner Chito Salud has made a short list of players he personally believes made an impact last season.
Some quarters may disagree with his choices. But he wouldn’t mind. Afterall, it’s the Commissioner’s Honor List. “This list is not about one being better than the other. I’m sure there are many out there who are just as good and deserving.”
The commissioner said he came across the idea to hopefully inspire the players to give their best all the time.
“I am calling out the skills and the values that I believe will propel the PBA to even greater heights as embodied in these individuals. Some of them may be unsung and unacknowledged,” he offered.
Salud dismissed the idea that he is playing favorites in his choices. “Playing favorites is not my cup of tea. But as is always the case in any tournament, there will be standouts,” Salud explained.
He stressed the players he picked epitomize the values and ideals the league wants to project to the public, particularly the kids, who emulate their idols.
The commissioner’s honor roll is composed of rookies, role players, injured stars and old warriors staging a comeback.
“I really think their efforts deserve recognition,” Salud said.
The commissioner said he intends to come up with an honor roll at the end of every season to inspire players to work harder.
