MANILA, Philippines - Erik Morales seeks to become the first Mexican four-division champion when he fights undefeated Pablo Cesar Cano for the vacant WBC light welterweight title in the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather-Victor Ortiz tonight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The Mayweather-Ortiz bout will be aired Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. on Solar Sports, Ch. 70 on Sky Cable, Ch. 35 on Destiny, and Ch. 31 on Cablelink.
No one liked the idea of Morales fighting again, fewer even liked his chances against a powerhouse in Marcos Rene Maidana, but El Terible shocked the world again with a vintage performance that drew a standing ovation from the crowd.
Because of his sterling showing against a highly rated contender in Maidana, Morales was given with another shot at history.
Up against Morales will be another Mexican in Cano who will be fighting for a world title for the very first time in his career.
Although largely untested, Cano has an unblemished ring record and is proven to be a very powerful puncher.
