Media cops Eduque Cup
MANILA, Philippines - Media outclassed Kamayan Golf Club by 42 strokes on Tuesday to capture the Tito Eduque Memorial Cup at the Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club course.
Sportscaster Anthony Suntay spearheaded the Media onslaught with a net 60 as the mediamen, used to being clobbered by their rivals, scored a rare lopsided victory in the event, which is actually the 25th edition of the Triple V-Media Invitational Golf Classic.
Media had a 10-man aggregate of 657 against Kamayan’s 699.
Suntay captured the individual overall title of the Media side tournament, beating by countback columnist Alex Magno, who had a similar 60.
Jun Engracia was Class A champion with a 69 while Ding Marcelo was runner-up with a 72 and Rey Bancod was third with a 74.
Magno settled for the Class B title with Delfin Perez (62) taking second and Jojo Robles (63) coming in third.
Ramon Tomeldan took the Class C title with a 68. Noel Velasco (68) was second and Ducky Paredes (73) third.
Media’s top 10 scorers were Suntay, Magno, Perez, Robles, Conrad Banal (67), Tomeldan, Engracia, Nilo Paurom (69), Velasco and Ernie Gonzales (70).
Ernie Wee was Kamayan’s overall champion with a 62, two strokes clear of Virgil Villavicencio while Bart Puzon came in third with a 66.
Rounding up Kamayan’s top 10 were Boysie Henares (66), BujiCoscolluela (67), Dennis Reyes (68), Mingging Ortiz (69), Dwight Lago (77), Raul Marcelo (79) and Dave Brodett (81).

Villasan won the prize for the most number of birdies (2) and Claudio had the most pars (11). The other winners of special prizes were Reyes and Velasco (nearest the pin on No. 8 and No.11, respectively), Rory del Castillo (most accurate drive), Raul Marcelo (best dressed) and Delfin Perez (early bird).
The annual 18-hole duel between Kamayan and the golfing members of Media started 25 years ago as part of the anniversary celebration of the Triple V Group of Restaurants.
The Triple V trophy was renamed Tito Eduque Memorial Cup 10 years ago in honor of the late former national basketball coach and chairman of theTriple V Group, who died in 2001.
