Ateneo, DLSU lead Interschool golf tourney

MANILA, Philippines - La Salle and Ateneo teams took control in the Midgets divisions in a duel among sister teams and schoolmates which marked the resumption of 2011 ICTSI Interschool golf tournament at the Splendido Taal Golf and Country Club in Nasugbu, Batangas over the weekend.

 La Salle Zobel 3 aggregated 110 points for a slim two-point edge over La Salle Greenhills 5 in Midgets 1 while Ateneo teams 2, 3 and 4 occupied the top three positions in the Midgets 2 category of the rain-hit Sunday event.

Jaime Oposa led scoring for La Salle Zobel 3 with 42 points while Steven Ferrer and Karl Tolentino contributed 36 and 32, respectively. Carl Jano Corpus and Aidric Jose Chan chalked up 45 each for Ateneo 2’s 90 points and a commanding 50-point lead over Ateneo 3 and an even bigger spread of 68 over Ateneo 4.

A Colegio San Agustin bet, Kristoffer Arevalo, showed up all scorers in the Midgets side with a 50-point effort in Week 2 of the school season events staged by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines. Arevalo led Oposa by eight points.

Chan and Corpus shared the lead in Midgets 2, leading Marc Elson Corrales by three while Agustin Mata (50) of Lyceum seized the upperhand from Joey Huerva (48) of La Salle Taft in the seniors division.

Aside from ICTSI and the host club Splendido, the Interschool is also sponsored by Philippine Airlines, Teriyaki Boy, Sizzlin Pepper, Golf Depot, Chevrolet, Friends of Jungolf, and Inquirer Golf.

The competitions move to Royal Northwoods this weekend.
