Dimakiling halves point; Barbosa falls

MANILA, Philippines - Filipino Oliver Dimakiling settled for a truce with Chinese Wan Yunguo in the fifth round of the Dato’ Arthur Tan Malaysia Open Chess in Kuala Lumpur late Saturday.

Dimakiling raised his total to 4.5 points for solo second place. Countryman Oliver Barbosa lost to Chinese GM Li Shilong.

With the win, Li grabbed the solo lead with 5.0 points. Barbosa had 4.0 in a tie with Italy-based Roland Salvador, GM Wang Rui, Lu Shanglei and Gao Rui,Yu Ruiyuan and Yunguo of China, GM Dao Thien Hai and Nguyen Doc Hoa of Vietnam.

The tournament is participated by 98 contestants from England, Germany, France, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Australia, China, India, Vietnam, Iran, Indonesia, Republic of South Africa, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Libya, Japan, Fiji, Hongkong, Brunei, Philippines and Malaysia.
