MANILA, Philippines - Multi-titled University of Manila swept Our Lady of Fatima in women’s and juniors divisions of the NAASCU basketball tournament at the UM gym in Manila recently.
The defending women’s champion Lady Hawks crushed the Lady Phoenix, 73-51, to even their card at 1-1 while the Hawklets trounced the Baby Phoenix, 88-79, for their fifth straight victory.
Josephine Lavalle scored 18 points and Sweely Morona added points for the Lady Hawks, who bounced back from their opening game loss to the Centro Escolar U side.
Sharmaigne Sicat fired 15 points while Denise Escoto had 14 points for the Lady Phoenix.
The Hawklets leaned on Ryanosuke Oka’s game-long brilliance as he sizzled with 32 points while John Santos and Rodolfo Marticio backed him up with 18 and 10 points, respectively.
Jerome Juanico paced the Baby Phoenix, which slid to 5-1, with 29 points while Allen Estudillo and Gio Laquesty added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
In other results, STI Colleges defeated Informatics International Colleges, 98-85, to post their second win in five matches while Trace Colleges edged New Era U, 83-78, for its first victory after three defeats.
