Deguito captures S'woods seniors plum

MANILA, Philippines - Mentz Deguito fired a net 64 to beat Brian Park by three and capture the Class A crown in the Manila Southwoods seniors trimester birthday bash golf tournament at Southwoods’ Legends Course in Carmona, Cavite recently.

Deguito, a 12-handicapper, strung up nines of 41-35 at the bunker-laden layout to clinch the top honors in the premier division (0-12) of the event which drew the club’s senior chapter members and their guests.

Park, a 9-handicapper, shot 37-39 for a net 67 as he settled for runner-up honors in the one-day tournament put up by the Manila Southwoods seniors chapter headed by president Jose Cedo and vice president Paco Gonzalez for the third straight year to honor senior members whose birthdays fall on every trimester of the year.

Mario Badillo took the Class B (13-24) crown with a net 60 from a gross 75, foiling Arnold David, who shot a gross 83 for a net 63 in the event presented annually by Anako Phils., Fumaco, Inc. and Yamaha by Kart Plaza and Wilson Sports.

Joel Altea turned in a net 60 from a gross 90 and nipped Chris Gonzales, who made a 61 from a gross 97, for the Class C plum (25-36) while Tomas Alvarez, a 27-handicapper, fired a net 60 to capture the Super Senior (75-and-above) title over Rod Pepito, who had a gross 95 for a net 67.

The other backers of the event, also held to foster camaraderie and friendship among the seniors chapter members, were Romago, Inc., Vantage Point and Asia Pacific Golf Corp. as event presentors with Warbird Security Red Eagle Lending Investors, Inc. , CG Airconditioning, Camp John Hay Golf Club, Philips Altus Communications, Tocoms Philippines, Inc.  and Rudy Project Phils as hole sponsors.

Meanwhile, the third trimester tournament will be held in November in time for the seniors chapter annual meeting and pre-Christmas celebrations.
