Gotuaco cops archery silver in CalState

-

MANILA, Philippines - Archer Bianca Roxas-Chua Gotuaco enhanced her promising career recently by bagging the silver medal in archery in the tough California State Games, a biennial multi-sport event which features medal winners from 45 state games nationwide, at the Olympic Training Center in San Diego.

Gotuaco, 14, pooled 841 points, including 295 in the 20m distance to finish behind Lauren Clamon, who shot 863 points to capture the gold medal in the Cub Women’s Recurve category of archery, one of the 24 sports disputed in the event which drew over 2,000 athletes.

Considered as the country’s top-ranked archer in her age group, Gotuaco also won a silver medal in last year’s California Stage Games to qualify for this year’s event, a state-wide amateur sports festival serving as the US Olympic Committee’s grassroots program.

Gotuaco also dominated the last Philippine National Games, raking in five gold medals in Bacolod.

She shot 268 points at 40m distance and made 278 at 30m for the 841-point output. Clamon fired 298 at 20m, 283 at 30m and 282 at 40m. Tessa Woodall took the bronze medal.
