Arcilla, Clarice top MSC netfest

MANILA, Philippines - Johnny Arcilla and Anna Clarice Patrimonio played true to form and fashioned out a pair of straight-set victories to rule their respective divisions in the first Makati Sports Club (MSC) Men’s and Ladies’ Open tennis tournament at the MSC courts recently.

Arcilla defeated Pablo Olivarez 11, 6-4, 6-2, in the men’s finals while Patrimonio reigned in the ladies side with a 6-0, 6-2 rout of Aileen Rogan in the 10-day meet sponsored by Easy Pha-Max Phl, the leading distributor of wheatgrass products in the country, Firefly Lighting and Babolat.

The Grade D tournament, sanctioned by the Philippine Lawn Tennis Association (Philta), will now be annual event to in MSC’s effort to help promote the sport and at the same time support and develop young, promising Filipino players, according to MSC sports manager Ron Limbo.

“These tournaments attract young players who really want to excel in the sport. Paolo (Olivarez) has a great potential to be one of the best players not only here but abroad. Exposures in various competitions and proper training will help young players improve their game,” said Arcilla in Filipino.

Easy Pha-max CEO Edward Ling also reaffirmed the company’s support of events that promote healthy lifestyles and those which contribute to the growth of sports in the country. Easy Pha-max also backed the Azkals’ match with Kuwait at the Rizal football stadium last month.
