MANILA, Philippines - Team Philippines, represented by Muntinlupa Little League, nipped East-New City LL-New York, 4-3, to stretch its win run to three for a share of the Pool B lead with Southeast-Wilkes County LL-NC in the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon Sunday.
The Filipino clouters peppered losing pitcher Reesa Guevarra with four hits in the bottom third for a four-run binge that turned a 0-3 deficit into a big one-run victory at the Alpenrose Stadium.
Ma. Regina Uytiepo yielded four hits in the second inning which the East translated into three runs but held on after the team struck back with four runs courtesy of Lucia Lorenzo, Daniele Mendoza, Cindy Ferrer and Monica Martinez.
The win came on the heels of Team Phl’s 7-2 romp over Oregon D4-Willow Creek LL last Friday.
Playing in front of a predominantly home crowd, Team Pilipinas drew solid hitting from Lucia Lorenzo, Jill San Juan, Alisha Vergara, Darlene Doleton and Martinez to break a tied game in the fourth inning. Uytiepo pitched the whole game and kept the Oregon batters at bay from the fifth inning.
Team Phl opened its campaign with an 18-8 rout of EMEA-Lombardia LL-Italy last Thursday.
The Filipinas go for a fourth straight win against Wilkes in a duel of unbeaten teams on Monday (Tuesday in Manila).
