MANILA, Philippines - Top seed Marian Jade Capadocia blanked Maribelle Bangayan, 6-0, 6-0, to advance to the quarterfinals of the girls’ 16-under division of the first Olivarez-Philta Open Tennis Championship at the Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque yesterday.
The win set up Capadocia, 15, against sixth seed Isabella Orteza, who routed Stephanie Guest, 6-1, 6-0.
Others who advanced were Rachelle de Guzman, Erika Manduriao, Joy Liming Yuen and Katrina Orteza.
De Guzman prevailed over Ingrid Mariz Gonzales, 6-1, 6-0; Manduriao trounced Andrea Nicole Amistad, 6-3, 6-2; Yuen beat Janna Hernandez, 7-5, 6-0; and Orteza made short work of Charito Capadocia, 6-0, 6-2.
In the boys’ 14-under class, No. 2 pick Marcen Angelo Gonzales and Brysl Libao reached the third round with easy victories over their respective rivals.
Gonzales blanked John Angelo Cerezo, 6-0, 6-0, while Libao blasted Emmanuel Fuellas, 6-1, 6-1.
Gonzales will next face Arthur Pantino who clobbered Vincent Anida, 6-1, 6-0, while Libao will take on No. 1 Eric Jed Olivarez Jr.
Also advancing are Vince Carlo Ramiscal, Julian Dayrit, Daniel Villasenor, Renzo de Ocampo, Paolo So and Stefan Suarez, who all outclassed their respective opponents.
Ramiscal pounded Cenon Gonzales Jr., 6-1, 6-0; Dayrit trampled Miguel del Rosario, 6-1, 6-2; Villasenor thumped Allen Manlangit, 6-1, 6-2; De Ocampo walloped Jose Felipe Mapa, 6-1, 6-4; So edged Mimo Tomacruz, 6-3, 6-4; and Suarez thumped Reymart Sabas, 6-1, 6-0.
A total of P500,000 cash prize is up for grabs in the tournament supported by Dunlop and sanctioned by the Philippine Lawn Tennis Association (Philta) headed by Rep. Edwin Olivarez Jr.
