Ababa also bows out of US Amateur

-

MANILA, Philippines - Sarah Ababa flubbed two crucial putts from six feet and lost to Victoria Tanco of Florida, 3&1, in the second round of the US Women’s Amateur Championship at the Rhode Island Country Club in Rhode Island Thursday.

Ababa fought through an all-square match after eight holes, went 1-up with a birdie on the ninth but yielded the hole with a bogey on the next. The last ICTSI-backed bet bogeyed Nos. 11 and 13 to fall two holes down but blew her chance to bounce back with a missed par putt on Nos. 15 and a birdie chance on the 16th, enabling Tanco to cruise to victory.

Ababa, who beat Chihiro Ikeda in the first round of the knockout stage, thus joined her teammates on the sidelines, along with joint low medal winner Stephanie Kim, who lost to Lopez Lee, 2&1, also in the second round.

Cyna Rodriguez and Andie Unson were booted out right in the first round, dropping a pair of 1-up decisions to Amy Anderson and Julie Yang, respectively.
