Laurente stakes crown vs Alag

MANILA, Philippines - Dennis Laurente will defend his Philippine welterweight crown tonight when he faces top contender Cris Alag in a special boxing presentation during the sixth induction ceremonies of the Rotary Club of Manila 101 District 3810.

World Champion and Congressman Manny Pacquiao will be the guest of honor in the rites where Liza Elorde will be inducted as Rotary district president.

The boxing card is in line with RC Manila 101’s poverty alleviation program designed to address concerns on hunger, health, illiteracy, unemployment, care for the elderly, safe drinking water, domestic violence and environmental hazards.

The “Boxing Kontra Droga”, its advocacy project for the youth, is sponsored by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and the Elorde Sports Center.

Laurente must retain his title as he is also being eyed to be in the undercard of the Pacquiao-Marquez fight which will be held on Nov. 12. in Las Vegas. Juan Miguel Elorde, grandson of the late Flash Elorde, will meet Saddam Eyo in an eight-rounder.
