MANILA, Philippines - Inspired by their successful partnership last year, Samsung and Emcor link up again this year as they stage the P1 million Davao National Pro-Am golf tournament on Aug. 25-27 at the Apo Golf and Country Club in Davao.
A total of 110 teams will vie for the top P172,000 purse plus trophy with the amateur champion to receive merchandise and trophy. The second and third placers will get P116,000 and P68,000, respectively.
The top 30 pros after the ICTSI-Philippine Golf Tour’s Apo leg on Aug. 10-12 will also earn berths in the three-day tournament although they will not be allowed to team up with amateurs with index of 5 and below.
Registration is ongoing with fee pegged at P6,000 per team, inclusive of one free practice round on Aug. 23 or 24. Deadline for listup is on Aug. 22.
The event, sponsored by Air Phil Express as official airline and Microtel Davao as official hotel, will be played under the Foursomes format or alternate shot.
Edgar Ababa and amateur partner Paul Echavez teamed up to humble a star-studded field and rule the inaugural staging of the event presented by Samsung in coordination with Emcor.
Samsung has been supporting local golf through its series of amateur tournaments - the Samsung Amateur Tour, the Samsung National Club Championships and the Samsung Interscholastics - and has sponsored the Davao pro-am for years.
Emcor has renewed its partnership with Samsung in its effort to help local pros and amateurs while providing a competition for clients of Emcor.
The event is backed by Footjoy and Titleist by Empire Golf, Mizuno, Custom Clubmakers, Glucoscare Herbal Tea and Omnisource International.
