MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom primes up as one of the leading backers of the 2011 Ironman 70.3 Philippines and a chief contender in the premier triathlon event set Aug. 14 at the CamSur Watersports Complex (CWC) in Camarines Sur.

It will also field in 12 individual athletes and two relay teams composed of employees, who took part in a series of tune-up races such as the Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) and the Anvaya Cove Invitational Triathlon as part of their buildup for the event.
The Globe triathlon team first joined the Ironman Phils. in 2009 with two individual athletes and two relay teams while six individual Globe employees and three relay teams successfully finished the race last year.
“We are very excited about our participation in this year’s Ironman Phils. Aside from showcasing our portfolio of broadband offers, our athletes will again slug it out with the best triathletes in the world. We are proud that we are the only team composed of full-time employees. It only goes to show that in Globe, we empower our people to pursue other endeavors outside their careers, and we are in full support of those goals,” said Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu.
More than 800 individuals and 90 relay teams from 23 countries are competing in Ironman 70.3, a test of strength and endurance featuring the 1.2 mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1 mile run events.
