UB Brahmans join NCAA-South 13th season

MANILA, Philippines - A new member school in University of Batangas welcomes the 13th season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association-South (NCAA-South) that comes off the wraps on August 19 at the San Beda College Alabang in Muntinlupa.

The entry of the UB Brahmans brings to 19 the total schools competing for the 2011 season hosted by San Beda College Alabang and which has for its theme ‘Nation Building Through Sports.’

Aside from the host and University of Batangas, also seeing action are Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Calamba, De La Salle Lipa, Lyceum of the Philippines-University-Batangas, First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (FAITH)-Tanuan, Philippine Christian University-Dasmarinas, San Pablo Colleges, San Pablo, University of Perpetual Help System-Laguna, and Don Bosco Technical College-Mandaluyong.

Long-time San Beda rector Fr. Paul M. De Vera, a member of the NCAA-South Policy Board, said at least two to three more schools are trying to apply as members, but stressed the league would be easy to manage at the moment with just 10 associates.

 “Ten member schools are ideal,” said Fr. De Vera in the PSA Forum at Shakey’s U.N. Ave., where he was joined by Dom Clement Roque, rector president of San Beda College Alabang and chairman of the league’s Policy Board.

As always, basketball serves as the league’s centerpiece event.
