PNSA to put up electronic scoring target

-

MANILA, Philippines - Putting up an electronic scoring target (EST) at the Philippine Marines Shooting Range will be one of the top priorities of the new leadership of the Philippine National Shooting Association (PNSA) as it gears up for its modernization program.

That was the promise made by PNSA president and Harbour Centre chief Mikee Romero to members of the national training pool for both pistol and rifle in a recent gathering held at the Fort in the hope of improving their skills and enhancing the image of one of the country’s premier shooting ranges.

The equipment is worth more than P5 million but Romero said it’s worth its value since it will help the shooters during their practice and even in competition.

“I will try my best to get the needed funds for it since it will benefit our athletes,” Romero, who was accompanied by his assistant Erick Arejola, said. “I hope the Philippine Sports Commission will help in this project.”

Aside from the EST which is likely to be purchased in early next year, the association has lined up two events – the Inter-Collegiate championships and the 1st All Shotgun International tournament.

The Inter-Collegiate tournament, a brain child of multi-titled Tac Padilla, is slated in September while the shotgun event will be held in December.

The pistol and rifle teams, meantime, will compete in South East Asian Invitational tournament - an event serving as one of PNSA’s basis for selecting members of the team to the Indonesia SEA Games.

The team, according to Romero, will spearheaded by Padilla, Carolino Gonzales, Mae Concepcion and rising star Jason Valdez. Also expected to join the team are Mark Mañosca, Shanine Gonzales, Charise Palma, Venus Tan and Ina Gutierrez.
