MANILA, Philippines - Alvin Ng bucked all odds as he scored the lone victory for Ford Focus-Tuason Racing School (TRS) recently in the 2011 Philippine GT Championship Series recently at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
Raising the white flag was no option for Ng, whose car was heavily damaged after hitting the wall during the time trials. The incident, however, wasn’t enough to put him down as he staged an amazing rally to clinch the GT130 crown for Ford Focus-TRS powered by Bridgestone, Castrol, Ford, OMP, Oakley, Coke Zero, Dupont, Starbright Bodykits, Rota, Ultraracing, Discovery Suites, Toptul, Speedlab, C! Magazine, and Belo Men.
The TRS crew quickly worked on the repairs and got the car back in good condition in the final three laps of the sprint race.
Though he started last in the 11-man grid, he worked his way up passing one driver after another to finish fifth overall in the race and capture the title.
He clocked 30 minutes, 21.452 seconds in the 17-lap race, finishing by 40 seconds ahead of Nueva Ecija bet Dean Joson.
Defending GT125 champion Sean Redpath likewise had problems but still managed to claim third place.
Ding Dizon, on the other hand, failed to see action in the event.
“The day started with several problems but Alvin’s (Ng) triumph more than made up for the pressures and headaches we had just before race proper. This only proves the reliability and superb performance of Ford Focus cars,” said TRS president JP Tuason.
