Tacloban stages national jetski meet

MANILA, Philippines - Tacloban City will host the first National Jetski Competition Sangyaw Challenge slated June 23-25 at the Cancabato Bay with top racers from Ilocos, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Pampanga, Iloilo, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Maguindanao, Davao and General Santos competing.

The Philippine Jetski team, led by world champion Paul del Rosario, top female riders Jam Mangio and Abby Reyes and Daryll Garbes banner the cast in the event, organized by the Jet Sports Association of the Philippines through the City Government of Tacloban under the auspices of Mayor Alfred Romualdez which is part of the month-long Sangyaw Festival and Tacloban’s fiesta celebrations.

Two ace Malaysian riders Nur Shahida bt Mohamad Noor, who won the Trengganu International Invitation Jet Ski Championship in April this year, and her younger brother Faez, will head the foreign challenge in the event presented by Globe Philippines, Scan Marine, Unilab and minor sponsors Coca-Cola, Robinson Malls, ALS Marine, Yamaha, San Miguel Corporation and www.taclobanwatersports.com.

Highlighting the month-long festivities is the Grand Sangyaw Parade on June 29, which will be a presentation of cultural dances of Tacloban much like Cebu’s Sinulog and Iloilo’s Ati-Atihan.

Raymond Romualdez, son of Mayor Alfred Romualdez, will be the top Team Tacloban bet, who will be gunning for the Novice crown.

Other events on tap are the Ski Open, Women’s Runabout Stock, Novice Runabout 2-Strokes Open, Novice Runabout 4-Strokes Stock, Expert Runabout Stock, Expert Runabout Open, Executive Runabout Stock, One-hour Endurance Runabout 4-Strokes Stock and One-hour Endurance Runabout 2-Strokes Stock.
