MANILA, Philippines - Finding the right groove and confidence, Tuason Racing protégé Basti Escalante unveiled another dominating feat to capture his second straight sweep recently in the third leg of the 2011 National Karting Super Series at the Boomland Kart Track of the CCP Complex.
The win was enough to install Escalante, a De La Salle Grade 7 student, to solo leadership in the Formula SL Novice class through the big support of Tuason Racing School, Castrol, OMP, Oakley, Discovery Suites, Belo Men, Toptul, C! Magazine, and his individual sponsors Audi, Transnational Diversified Group, Werdenberg International Corp., Bridgestone, Puma, Coke Zero, Bank of Commerce, Emcor, KServico, Washington Watches and The Philippine STAR.
His feat was a big improvement from his fourth place debut in the class after clinching the Mini-ROK crown last season. He now holds 204 points, two points ahead of erstwhile leader Sacha Feliciano.
“It’s quite tough at the start, but coach Mike’s (Tuason) instructions further boosted my confidence despite the high-speed technical track and the pressure from equally talented rivals. Hopefully, I could sustain grip of the lead in the next race,” said Escalante.
In all three races, Basti broke away from the pack and finished the races with no less than a six-second margin over the runner-up.
The qualifying heat saw Escalante winning by a far 8.5 seconds over Feliciano and pulled a repeat in the pre-final where he finished the race by a 7.634 seconds difference.
The finals again proved his consistency as he wrapped up the 28-lap race in 14 minutes and 26.881 seconds or 6.131 seconds ahead of runner-up Jaz Monzones.
Basti is one of the pioneer products of the the Tuason Racing School Racing Career Management Program (TRS-RCM) which is aimed at helping young racers achieve a successful career path in motorsports. Multi-disciplined racers and champions JP and Mike Tuason designed the said program patterned after the training program of Formula One drivers to fast track the development and training of young potentials into champion racers.
