MANILA, Philippines - Rey Briones (Spartans DR-1), Boy Jiao and Ito Ynares (June 14 NCA Big Event Ynares Arena 220K Pot) and Rikki Reyes (@PR Knights Rian WRN) all scored seven points apiece as they shared top honors in the World Slashers Cup-2 at the Araneta Coliseum last Sunday.
For Briones, one of Thunderbird Winning Team members, it was his second Slashers Cup crown, which he first won in 2003. The win also underscored his success in gamefowl breeding in his Spartans Game Farm in Bulacan where he breeds his Spartan Red and Spartan White aces.
Jiao, on the other hand, bounced back from his entries’ three-win showing in the elims and the semis as he won four more to win his third WSC title.
Reyes, meanwhile, finally made his mark as one of the league’s most feared cocker-breeders after notching his first world title with his @PR Knights Rian WRN entry from the RDR Greys and RDR Blueface Hatches.
Wilson Ong’s Octagon Rian WRN-1 scored 6.5 points for runner-up honors while Vendivil (Oliver WRN-10 and Rikki Reyes other entry (@Rian KSA TNT WRN) closed out with six points each in the event which drew 174 entries and featured 70 matches.
Also finishing with 6.5 points in the event, hosted by the Pintakasi of Champions and presented by B-Meg Derby Ace with Thunderbird Enertone as major sponsor, were Buddy Robregado (Big R) and the tandem of Bebot Roxas and Peping Cojuangco (Paniqui-CAT).
Allan Siaco (A.S. Nowitzki), Jet and Joel Fernando (Antipolo JSF), Ricky Magtuto/NMC/Jeffrey and Alwin Sy (Camsur 6-Stag Sept.16), Art de Castro and Ed Aparri (Ed Art Grady Thunderbee Creekside MTJ), Engr. Efren Fernando of Zamboanga (EFZ Erikka Jillian), Ampil Bros. and Edwin Baccud (Habagat EYB Re Gel RGG), James Uy (Liberator Rachel Mitzki JU), Mayor Jose Panganiban (Oxford Princess Casino 7-Stag Derby Oct. 16), Mario Villamor/Angeles Bros. (Phoenix Juliana), Junjun Salazr and Toto Sevilla (Pleasant Drive), Ruel Ricafort (RT 114 Roosterville), Nene Araneta (Thunderbird-II), Lito Ruedas (Velasco LC Happy B-day) wound up with identical six points.
