MANILA, Philippines - National University and Lourdes School of Mandaluyong annexed the 15-under and 12-under titles, respectively, in the Freego Hoop Challenge recently at the Xavier Gym in San Juan.
The Bullpups beat defending champion San Beda Red Cubs, 87-84, as Lorenzo Battad led five NU players in double figures with 21 followed by Most Outstanding Player Kelvin Villagracia (18), Cyprian Castillo (14), Carlos Lopena (13) and Dhino Mosqueda (12) in this tournament organized by Coach E Basketball School and backed by Freego Jeans.
Andre Caracut fired 21 points while Reggie Abu had 16 and Norish Decapix 14 for the Red Cubs.
Lourdes School of Mandaluyong had an easier time as it disposed of College of St. Augustine, 64-52, for the 12-under crown.
Benedict Cruz and Gian Mamuyac tallied 21 and 13, respectively, as Lourdes led from start to finish, including a 52-34 advantage after three quarters. Mamuyac was adjudged Most Outstanding Player for the division.
Jitesh Pushwani and Mark Angelo Teodosio had 11 points apiece for St. Augustine.
