Pacman opens P1-M dartfest
MANILA, Philippines - Eight-division world boxing champion Rep. Manny Pacquiao will do the ceremonial throw at 6 tonight, kicking off the P1 million Philippine Cup and Philippine Open Singles Darts Championships at 6 p.m. at the Clamshell in Intramuros.
Pacquiao, who recently accepted the position as chairman of the Darts Council of the Philippines (DCP), has put up the P1 million prize in the three-day event ending with the men’s and ladies single events on Sunday.
DCP president Andrew Arrieta said Pacquiao will also be making an announcement with regards to bigger dart events in the future.
The tournament, staged in cooperation with the US-based Manny Pacquiao Darts Association (MPDA), will begin with the Classified Draw Doubles which offers a guaranteed prize of P100,000. Games begin immediately after tonight’s opening ceremonies. Registration starts two hours before game time in every event.
Matches in the Open doubles draw will be played at 11 a.m. tomorrow to be followed by the Philippine Cup ladies singles at 3 p.m. and the men’s singles at 4 p.m.
On Sunday, the Philippine Open ladies singles will be held starting at 11 a.m. followed by the men’s singles at 12 noon.
The Open doubles also has a prize pot of P100,00. Both the ladies singles events have guaranteed prizes of P70,000 while the men’s singles events offer P330,000 each.
