Alcantara, Garcia rule CJ Puno Cup tourney

MANILA, Philippines -  Rudy Alcantara fired a gross 78 for a net 68 to capture the overall championship while Chito Garcia took the Class A title with a net 70 from a gross 80 in the first Chief Justice Puno Golf Cup at Wack Wack’s West course in Mandaluyong City recently.

Niño Bandoquillo and Rene Datu also shot identical 70s from grosses of 75 and 77, respectively, but Garcia took the Class A plum with three birdies against the duo’s two in the event held to raise funds for former CJ Reynato Puno’s 100 million trees project.

Lito Marana made a net 69 from a gross 94 as he posted a two-shot win over Andy Sanchez and Chito Litam, who both had 71s, in Class B of the event presented by San Miguel Corp. and Bank of Commerce and sponsored by ICTSI, Solar Entertainment, Business Mirror, Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. and Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.

Ron Tolentino, Ed Cobankiat and Justice Villaluz all scored 100s but Tolentino took the Class C diadem with a net 71, two shots clear of Cobankiat, who had a net 73, Villaluz wound up with a net 74 in the tournament backed by hole-in-one sponsors Volvo S40, Club Car, JM Pizarras and Associates, Grace Reyes Designs, and Arizona Marketing Corp.

Gabrielle Nichaela Bruce copped the ladies title with a net 70 from a gross 81, nipping Charlene Abalos, who had a net 71 from a gross 82, and Samantha Marie Bruce, who made a gross 86 for a net 72.

Aces Marine, Andre Nicko Trading, Citi Nickel, DN Steel Group of Companies, Filcomserve, GMA Network, MOST Law, PCSO and People’s Air Cargo and Warehouse and Aquabest were the event’s benefactors while hole sponsors were Sen.
