Fil-Chinese invitational tees off at Highlands
MANILA, Philippines - Sports officials and members of the Filipino-Chinese business community will tee off in the Fil-Chi Friendship invitational golf tournament organized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation (FCAAF) on June 13 at the Tagaytay Highlands Golf and Country Club in Tagaytay City.
“This charity golf event is meant to celebrate 36 years of diplomatic ties between China and the Philippines and to commemorate a hundred years of Philippine sports,” said FCAAF golf committee chair Jeffrey Ng in yesterday’s PSA forum at the Shakey’s UN Avenue branch in Manila.
Joining Ng in the session sponsored by Smart, Pagcor, Outlast Battery and Shakey’s were FCAAF president Alvin Tailian, vice president Wallie Lee, golf committee vice chair Adonis Baluyot and consul Wu Zheng Ping, commercial attaché of the Chinese embassy to the Philippines.
“We welcome this golf tournament to mark 36 years of fruitful diplomatic ties between the People’s Republic of China and the Philippines which we hope will also strengthen and enhance the friendship between our two countries,” Wu said.
Ng said that Chinese Ambassador Liu Jian Zhao and Tan Ching, Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, will head the ceremonial tee-off.
POC president Peping Cojuangco and PSC chairman Richie Garcia are also expected to be among those who will take part in the golf fund-raiser, whose proceeds will go to the rehabilitation of drug addicts, Ng said.
A total of P600,000 in prizes will be up for grabs in the event featuring competitions in Class A, B, C, D and ladies divisions, including an I-Pad, LCD television sets and three Philip Stein watches, worth P60,000 each.
Ng said the registration fee is P3,000 per golfer, inclusive of lunch and caddies fees, and will entitle the participants to the raffle draw.
Among the sponsors of the charity golfest are Bestank, Asia Brewery, CITIC UAA group, Philip Stein, Chronos and South Forbes Golf City.
