Cudala overall champ in Champs of Future

MANILA, Philippines - Raymond Ryan Cudala was man of the hour as he captured the overall crown in the championship leg of the 2011 Castrol Champions of the Future Series recently at the Carmona Racetrack.

Cudala, a 12-year-old incoming Grade 6 student of Elizabeth Seton School, displayed intensity and awesome skills to sweep all races in this four-leg series organized by Castrol and powered by its partners Tuason Racing School, the Automobile Association Philippines, Alaska, Pena Motorsports, AUTS Racing, Bridgestone, PUMA, OMP, Jaguar, Lifeline, Carmona Race Track, The Philippine STAR, 99.5RTfm, Trapik.com, Kzone, Top Gear and Timezone.

He wrapped up the series with 120 points to claim the scholarship package to run in the National Karting Series from AAP under the tutelage of multi-awarded race car drivers and champion makers JP and Mike Tuason.

“He (Cudala) proved himself the best protégé of this initial Castrol program, and I would like to congratulate all the other participants for giving their all.  This is just the beginning and we hope to develop more talents as we look forward to much bigger endeavors in the future,” said Castrol president Mars Sota.

“They’ve all shown big potentials and I believe they’re all ready for the big-time competition. We’d like to thank Castrol for entrusting the Tuason Racing School with this program and I hope this fruitful and successful partnership will go on in the years to come,” added JP Tuason, president of the Tuason Racing School.

Aside from Cudala, Bryan Joshua Thorpe also bloomed as he surprised everyone with his runner-up feat, upstaging William Casequin in the final race.  Iolo Estanislao and Arthur “AT” Tuason completed the winners podium cast finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

Despite his third place finish, Casequin still claimed overall runner-up honors with a total of 100 points.  Gabriel Tayao Cabrera took overall third with 67 points, just a five-point lead over fourth placer AT Tuason who tallied 62.

Dominique Lao followed with 57 and completing the top 10 finishers of the series were Thorp (49 pts.), Ronin Leviste (45 pts.), Estanislao (42 pts.), Mathew Maramba (41 pts.) and Flynn Jackes (38 pts.).

Earlier in the Pre-Final, it was Casequin who copped the runner-up finish over Thorp, with Cabrera and Dominique Lao checking in fourth and fifth respectively.

Tuason, then running  third, figured in an incident as he started 15th in the Final race.  Determined, Tuason rallied his way up passing one karter to another to wind up fifth.
