AFP paces Asian Ladies golf
MANILA, Philippines - Armed Forces of the Phils. Golf Club (formerly Aguinaldo GC) scored a solid 145 aggregate and posted a 25-point lead over Tagaytay Highlands I at the start of the eighth Asian Ladies Team Golf Championship at the Camp John Hay Golf Club in Baguio City last Tuesday.
Matet Salivio tamed the up-and-down par-69 layout with 56 points under the Molave scoring system while Karen Kime and Josie Untal added 45 and 44 points, respectively, as AFP firmed up its bid to duplicate its 21-point romp in winning last year’s edition of the annual event.
Mabel Salivio made 32 points and didn’t count for AFP in the four-to-play, three-to-count format event sponsored by Golforce, Poblador Ba utista & Reyes Law Offices, Asia Pacific Golf Corp., Camp John Hay Manor, Le Chef, Camp John Hay Development Corp., Rizgolf Sports Marketing and Boracay Sands.
Tagaytay Highlands assembled a 125 as Gie Bote fired 46 points and Nini Eustaquio and Hedy See scoring 40 and 39 points, respectively, with Emalina Flores failing to count with 32 points in the three-day tournament backed by Dusit Thani Manila, Sherwood Hills Golf Club, Forest Hills Golf Club, Unionbank, Federal Management and Manpower, Inc., University of Baguio, Addessa Corp. and Hill Station Restaurant.
Camp John Hay, meanwhile, showed the way in the two other divisions, scoring 112 for a 15-point lead over Alabang and Forest Hills Palmer in Group 2 and likewise pooling a 112 for a 13-point lead over Forest Hills in Group 3.
In Group 1, Manila Southwoods I made a 123 behind Beachie Abiera’s 47 points, Sandy Velhagen’s 39 and Yong Mi Kim’s 37 points for third, while Camp John Hay, led by Joy Sevilla’s 46 points, and Forest Hills Nicklaus, with Tess Staub firing 39 points, shot 120 and 107 points, respectively.
In Group 2, the hosts leaned on Oh Kyung Ja’s 40 and Keum Myung Heui and Eve Aquino’s pair of 36s to seize control. Rita Horan paced Alabang with 42 points while Marl Mendoza and Carol Nielsen added 31 and 24 points, respectively.
Forest Hills drew 35 points from Nelda Roguel while Cecile Tan and Jee Cabochan added 34 and 28, respectively, while Manila Southwoods assembled a 91 behind Glo Domingo’s 31 and Belle Villanueva and Julie Reichel’s 30 points.
In Group 3, Jung Jung Soon, Norma Lawrence and Leonor Corpuz shot 39, 37 and 36 points, respectively, for John Hay while Forest Hills drew 39 points from Mary Ang while Anli Wu and Imelda Yu added 33 and 27 points, respectively. Tagaytay Highlands made a 97 while last year’s champion Baguio Country Club struggled with 96 followed Alabang, which assembled a 73.
