Cudala claims third straight title
MANILA, Philippines - Raymond Ryan Cudala continued to dominate the 2011 Castrol Champions of the Future Series, winning for the third straight leg at the Carmona race track in Cavite recently.
The 12-year-old Cudala, a Grade 5 pupil at Elizabeth Seton School reasserted his mastery over the field, pulling away early on to beat Dominique Lao and Matthew Maramba for the Group B crown.
Arthur “AT” Tuason, grandson of racing great Arthur Tuason and son of multi-champion JP Tuason, checked in fourth while Dylan Arambulo and Ronin Leviste, son of Batangas Vice-Gov. Mark Leviste, wound up fifth and sixth, respectively.
With the victory, Cudala kept his hold of the solo lead for the scholarship package to run in the National Karting Series with a total of 90 points in the event organized by Castrol and backed by Tuason Racing School, the Automobile Association Philippines, Alaska, Pena Motorsports, AUTS Racing, Bridgestone, PUMA, OMP, Jaguar, Lifeline, Carmona Race Track, The Philippine Star, 99.5RTfm, Trapik.com, Kzone, Top Gear and Timezone.
Cudala’s closest title rival, William Casequin, prevailed in Group A with the nine-year-old son of touring car champion and TRS race car driver Stuart MacDonald besting Lolo Estanislao and Brian Joshua Thorp.
Flynn Jackes ended up fourth while Xedrei Daquigan and Julian Gabriel Espino came in fifth and sixth, respectively.
Casequin has 78 points while Gabriel Tayao Cabrera Tuason moved up third overall with 59 points. AT Tuason is in fourth with 56 followed by Lao, who has 47 points.
“We’re close to wrapping up the pilot season of the series and we’re happy to see a competitive batch of future champions and how they really worked hard to go this far,” said Castrol president Mars Sota.
