Phl hosts ASEAN Seniors golf

-

Manila, Philippines - The Philippines will host the 28th Asean Seniors Amateur Golf Championship on July 4-6 with the region’s top golfing elders clashing for top honors at the Mimosa and Fontana golf course in Clark, Angeles City, Pampanga.

Over 250 players from Asean member-countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei and the Philippines, will see action in the three-day event with the host fielding in around 30 players, according to Federation of Philippine Amateur Seniors Golf, Inc. (FPASGI) president and organizing committee chairman Clyde Fernandez.

This marks the first time in five years that the country will host the tournament after Eagle Ridge staged the event in 2006.

The Asean Seniors will be held under the auspices of the FPASGI, a member-association of the Confederation of Asean Senior Golfers Association (CASGA), headed by current chair Ret. Maj. Gen. Pg Dato Paduka Seri Abidin Pg Ahmad of the Brunei Darussalam Association of Senior Golfers.

The event was launched in 1982 in Singapore with Indonesia hosting the second edition in 1983 before it was alternately played in different Asean member-countries.

In the Philippines, senior golf has been organized as early as 1964 when the Philippine Seniors Golf Association was formed for the purpose of competing in the World Senior Golf Championship and the World Senior Golf Team Matches in Colorado, US.

The 28th Asean Seniors is staged in cooperation with the Department of Tourism, Pagcor, San Miguel Corp., Mareco Broadcasting Network, Inc. and Eagle Broadcasting Corp.
