Yokohama GT stages second leg at Clark

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s ace drivers return to action as the Clark International Speedway plays host to the second leg of the 2011 Yokohama Philippine GT Championship Series in Angeles.

Ace driver Vincent Floirendo will be gunning for his second straight triumph to firm up his solo leadership in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and sponsored by official tires Yokohama Philippines, Enersel Forte, official pace car Honda Cars-Caloocan, Rota Wheels, Pagcor Sports and Racing Beat@Wave89.1FM.

Floirendo, a native of Davao and a veteran of karting, circuit and Formula 3 competitions, flaunted his experience as he quickly grabbed the pole at the start of the 17-lap final race to capture both the GT Overall and GT 300 titles.

But defending champion William Tan, who topped the 10-lap Sprint Race over Ford-TRS bet Alvin Ng and Dean Joson, vowed to bounce back and liven up hopes for a back-to-back crown.

Among the other strong contenders are Dennis Uy of Seaoil-Velocity Motors, Ramil Madriaga, Leo San Juan and Ford-TRS drivers Sean Redpath, Bobby Horrigan, Veli-Matti Kaikkonen and Ding Dizon.

These drivers will also be disputing the titles in the GT 200, GT 130 and GT 100 divisions.

The 2011 Rota Wheels-Enersel Forte Philippine Vitz Cup is fast becoming a crowd favorite with the exciting showdown among the young Turks and the veterans.

In the kickoff leg, young prodigies of Ready2Race Juha Turalba and Roby Benito split victories in the first two races but the veterans, led by former motocross champ Glenn Aguilar and Sel-J Sports CEO Jay Lacnit, are set to go all out to regain the crown.

Turalba ruled Race 1 where he turned back Benito and Aguilar while Benito regained composure in Race 2 to prevail over Arvin Drueco and George Apacible.

The Vitz Cup Executive class is expected to be another tough duel between Lacnit and Oscar Aguilar.

Adding attraction to the race is the Miata Cup featuring classic cars like the Opel, Kharmann Ghia, Toyota Selica, Mini Cooper, Alfa Romeo, Ford Escort, Volkswagen, Lotus Replica, the 1967 Porsche 912 and the 1965 Porsche 911.
