MANILA, Philippines - Streaking Ateneo tries to extend its win run to six and book the first quarterfinal berth as it slugs it out with defending champion San Sebastian today in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Pre-Season Premier Cup at the Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Blue Eagles, priming up for their four-peat drive in the UAAP, need just one win to get into the next phase but they will be hard pressed to record their sixth victory against the Stags in the 4 p.m. main game.
The Stags tote a 2-1 card but are expected to go all out to stop the Eagles on a team backstopped by Calvin Abueva, Ronald Pascual, Ian Sanggalang and Anthony del Rio.
“This will be a real test for us. San Sebastian is a strong team. We need to be at our best against them,” said Ateneo assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga, who called the shots for the Eagles in the absence of head coach Norman Black in the Eagles’ 71-66 win over the National University Bulldogs over the weekend.
