Kyota makes mark in Cantada boxing

Manila, Philippines - Kid Kyota of Japan dished out his finest performance in the ongoing PCSO Metro-Manila Amateur Boxing Championships on Saturday before a huge crowd in Barangay 604, Zone 60, District VI (Santa Mesa), Manila.

Kyota, who is based in Tokyo and already a regular in the slugfest organized by Joe Cantada Sports, made the fiesta celebration of Barangay 604 headed by its chairman Jonathan “Onat” Garzo more exciting with his abbreviated win via a TKO in the 53 kgs. category.

Also winning, ain the one-day event made possible through the invitation of Lorelei Gamboa, president of the South Western United Neighborhood Organization, Inc., were Johnrick Navarro of Mandaluyong (36.5 kgs.), Jerome Gagate of Malabon (37 kgs.), Ford Ranupa of Quezon City (39), Archie Serapion of Caloocan (40), Samuel Lontayao of Taguig (44), Roy Ramos of Taguig (52), Mark John Ligas of Caloocan (52) and Roel Laguardia of Addition Hills (55).

The slugfest is covered on video and will be aired at a later date nationwide in the regular weekly television program Fistorama on Pinoy Extreme – channel 83 on Destiny Cable and provincial cable channels.

Fistorama will, likewise, be aired worldwide on the Bro Channel of ABS CBN Global Limited The Filipino Channel.

Hostilities were staged at the covered basketball court by the old railroad tracks at the back of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, the neighborhood where promoter Edgardo “Boy” Cantada learned to play basketball among many other things.

“It’s good to be back home,” said Cantada. “This is my neighborhood, and I want to give my old and new friends the opportunity to enjoy one of Joe Cantada Sports’ offerings.”
