Loyzaga appointed PSC executive
Manila, Philippines - Commissioner Chito Loyzaga will wear another hat at the Philippine Sports Commission, that of acting executive director, or the official in charge of the agency’s day-to-day operations.
Loyzaga has been appointed by the PSC board to the post Wednesday in lieu of former athlete Dina Bernardo, an added workload to his job as PSC commissioner and co-chef de mission of the Philippine team to the Southeast Asian Games.
“I haven’t really talked to chairman (Richie Garcia) on the direction he wants the office of the ED to take as he left with the Phl team to the Arafura Games in Australia so we’ll just maintain status quo here. There’ll be no major changes at this point, until I will have the chance to talk to chairman at length when he comes back,” Loyzaga said yesterday.
The former basketball star said he will evaluate his new workload as commissioner and concurrent function as ED and consult with Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose Cojuangco with regards to his SEAG duty.
“I haven’t have time to reflect on the responsibility. In a day or two pag-iisipan kong mabuti dahil ang sa akin, gusto kong gampanan nang maigi yung tasks na binigay sa akin so perhaps I would make an evaluation (I want to fulfill all my tasks well so I’d have to make an evaluation),” he said.
“I want to be fair to everybody, lalo na kay POC president Peping Cojuangco, who assigned me to be the co-CDM...If my being acting ED would get much of my time and I’ll not be able to do or perform my task as CDM, perhaps I should really evaluate and try to seek an audience with Mr Cojuangco para pag-usapan (I’ll consult with Mr. Cojuangco),” he added.
This will not be the first time a commissioner will assume the ED function in his tenure, with Fr. Vic Uy taking the role.
Loyzaga was thrust into the position after Bernardo, a former athlete who was named ED by Malacanang resigned, as per the information that reached the commissioner. Bernardo was not available for comment.
