20 teams compete in Cebuana softball

-

MANILA, Philippines - Twenty teams have confirmed participation in the fifth Summer Grandslam-Cebuana Lhuillier Softball Invitational, which unfolds May 9 in Benguet featuring the men’s and women’s divisions.

The organizing Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asaphil) is still awaiting the final confirmation of women’s division defending champions University of Sto. Tomas University (UST) and Rizal Technological University (RTU).

Adamson U and UP-Diliman head the women’s roster that includes Bulacan State University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), and the University of Cordilleras. Also in the fold are teams from Manila, Laguna, Zamboanga City and local teams Besao Women’s, and Benguet.

The Blu Girls are not competing in the women’s side but are instead entered in the men’s division as part of their preparation for the Asian Softball Championship in Taiwan in September. The Taiwan meet serves as the qualifying event for the World Softball Championship next year, according to Asaphil’s Jun Veloso.

The Blu Girls are also in the thick of preparations for the SEA Games in Indonesia in November.
